The underlying angst between Brady and Trevor made Serena restless. Even the waitress stayed at a safe distance. Smart woman.

No doubt it had to do with her, and she hated the idea of coming between the men. She’d seen how much they loved each other in their expressions and actions. Something that special needed to be protected.

While they were eating, she excitedly told Trevor about her first bike ride. “‘It was better than flying over a field of flowers. So much faster and more exhilarating.”

Both of their expressions showed confusion. It took her a moment to realize what she’d said wrong. She bit her lip, mentally chastising herself to be more careful. Revealing her true nature too soon would be disastrous.

Serena had the distinct impression that Trevor stalled, trying to draw out the lunch. First, he ordered dessert even though he’d not been able to finish his meal, then he insisted on having coffee, a horribly bitter drink she did not enjoy.

The men stepped away from her for a brief time, moving to the bar to have a heated, private discussion which worried her. They seemed angry and at odds. In the parking lot, Trevor made a big show of ignoring Brady and lingering over saying goodbye to her. Brady and she watched his car disappear down the dirt road until no longer visible.

Ruffling her hair, Brady said, “Hey, no glum faces. We need to have some fun, and I know just the thing. Come on. I’m going to take you someplace warm where it’s always summertime.”

He strapped on the helmet and got them underway, then told her to relax and enjoy the ride. That’s exactly what she did. With her arms around Brady’s waist, she held on tight and took in all the scenery they rocketed past.

There were lots of shopping centers similar to the one they’d visited earlier. They passed vehicles of many different sizes, shapes, and colors, along with huge mechanical birds in the sky. Brady told her those were airplanes and people rode in them when traveling long distances.

But the most fantastic thing she saw were cows. At her insistence, Brady pulled off the road so she could get closer look at the large animals. They came in a variety of colors, and Serena decided the brown-and-white spotted ones were the most appealing. She would have stood at the fence listening to the odd “mooing” sound they made all day if Brady had not dragged her away.

By the time they reached their destination, her ass hurt and her legs were wobbly. When she tried to walk, Brady laughed because she did so awkwardly with her knees pushed out. He said she looked like a cowboy, whatever that meant.

As they strolled toward a huge structure, he told her it housed a water park resort. She stretched out her legs, gazing around in wonder at the cavernous room while Brady talked to a woman working there. When he finished his business, Brady’s wicked grin, showing off bright-white teeth, nearly knocked her off her feet.
